In August 2012, I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification through Yoga Life Institute in Devon, PA. The program is a yearlong intensive that includes theory-practice continuum that goes beyond anatomy and physiology and includes the spiritual/philosophical groundwork of yoga. I was honored to be a student of Dr. Bob Butera, Ph. D. and his wife Kristen as well as the many inspiring and talented instructors through Yoga Life Institute.

 

I went through several specialized workshops that included breathing  techniques, relaxation and stress reduction, meditation, Yin Yoga, partners yoga, yoga nutrition, Aryvedic practices, Yoga for Arthritis, Yoga Therapy, wall yoga, Yin Yoga, vocal practice in yoga, Yoga Nidra and several workshops in class sequencing.

 

I had the great pleasure to start my program with a 4 day intensive with the master gurus from Yoga Institute in Santacruz, Mumbai, Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra and Smt. Hansaji Yogendra. It was an amazing introduction to the lineage of classical yoga from the oldest organized yoga center in the world. This is where I was introduced to the Eight Fold Path and became the foundation of what we are taught through our program at Yoga Life Institute.  In July I attended a weekend intensive program for advance teaching techniques. In this program we broke down yoga postures and learned various modifications as well as understanding contraindications for each poses.  Also, how to make adjustments and alignments safely were just some of the main points in this intensive.

 

As far as my personal journey through yoga, I started taking classes in 2003 when I was riding on a long distance cycling team. I began to see the physical benefits of yoga and also great benefits from breathing techniques. Through college I had a strong interest in Anthropology and was drawn to the study of various cultures, religions and philosophies. My love of music, art and nature seemed to churn in the depths of my soul and within the past few years many elements seemed to meld together. As yoga means “union” I am starting to personally cultivate a union of all things that make me who I am. Practicing yoga and being a student in the past few years has truly helped my life bloom and armed me with such great tools that will forever pave my way on this earth. Through this passion I hope to continue to be part of a strong community of yogis, share with others the powerful path of yoga and the various therapeutic attributes of yoga practice. I enjoy teaching others and encouraging them through their personal discovery. In my teachings I blend various breathing techniques, meditation, guided relaxation, restorative, spiritual teachings as well as beginner and more vigorous asanas and vinyasa. I like to end my class with an inspirational reading or blessing to inspire you as you go on your own personal journey~ Namaste~
